DeGrade is not an installation that can be visited as such, but one that one is confronted with, with an imposed interaction. Like a kind of thermometer within which the spectator finds himself physically confronted, it is an experience lived through daily movements.
Upon entering the elevator, the spectator finds himself facing a structure that emits sounds and projects visuals onto a beehive-shaped surface that he can observe from all angles. It is by pressing the elevator buttons that the user initiates the interaction. The sounds and visuals generated change according to the floors he goes to. Abstract images evoking rocks, bees or even lava follow one another according to the altitude, accompanied by natural sounds alternating comfort and worry.
A relationship is thus established between the altitude at which the elevator is located and the increase in the average temperature on earth, the floor corresponding to the number of degrees. A screen replaces the floor indication with the simulated temperature.
