How does colonization impact the transmission of cultural and linguistic heritage within a family?
This question led me to collect testimonies from people seeking to reconnect with their culture of origin, often facing family silence around colonial history and language barriers.Still perceived as useless, these languages are rarely passed down, making access to that culture difficult.
I then researched the colonial history of Madagascar, particularly the insurrection that preceded independence, an episode that remains both taboo and largely unknown. Through this game, I aim to show how these silences can lead to a rupture with one’s own culture.
After her grandmother’s death, Andy recounts how she discovers a mysterious object among her belongings, accompanied by a letter written in Malagasy.Faced with the language barrier, she tries to learn more by questioning those around her. But her questions remain unanswered, as if the letter and the object were tied to a family secret.
This game is a 3D point-and-click adventure in which you play as Andy, a member of a family with an immigrant background.Alongside her cousin, investigate, solve puzzles, deduce words, and translate the letter to uncover the mystery behind its author, understand their intentions, and trace the hidden threads of a family history.
